So many agendas – police brutality, law and order, black lives matter, disbanding police departments, reparations for slavery.
Anger is everywhere. Hollywood, corporations, the media, intelligentsia, politicians, even churches.
We’re told something has to be done. We need to do better. More funds need to be diverted to social programs for people of color, and policing needs to be re-thought.
Many are confessing and mourning their white privilege. Kneelings and apologies are abundant.
We’re woke, it should be better now. Everyone is on board.
Do you believe that?
All of a sudden everything is going to get better?
Police aren’t going to be eliminated, that would bring total anarchy. Instead, they will be replaced with a force more in line with the new wokeness.
And others are just picking the side they think will win in this conflict with the hope and expectation that they can skate from their past sins.
It won’t work though. The victor will eat them too. You have to know that’s inevitable.
This is all a bit bewildering though.
First defenders, who were glorified just a few weeks ago for their frontline help during COVID-19, are now being vilified.
Banks which moralistically display their new BLM banners, still charge the poor 30% interest.
Governors who recently sent police to charge churchgoers sitting in their cars for violating the lockdown, now encourage unfettered protests and riots.
Those caught for even the most serious offense, are released with the DAs refusing to file charges.
Businesses, who for months were closed, were finally able to open, only to be looted and burned down days later.
Everything seems upside down.
Is there a solution?
Are we missing the big picture? The solution to man’s problems is not more human solutions, it’s a spiritual one but no one is interested in that.
What does the bible say? Is it applicable to time such as these?
Let’s analyze that.
All have sinned
Who is evil? Does political affiliation or position dictate evil and good? You would believe that if you listened to the media. Of course, depending on the source, you definitely get two answers.
But, the Bible states all men are evil. Jeremiah 17:9 says “The heart is deceitful above all things…”. Romans 3:23 emphasizes that “…all have sinned and fall short…“. And, it doesn’t just go away, 2 Timothy 3:13 says “…evildoers and impostors will go from bad to worse…“.
Not a pretty picture of mankind, is it?
Man is basically evil, all have sinned, and it is going from bad to worse.
So historically, what has been holding everything back? Because it seems bad now and it’s getting worse.
The only restraint to evil is God and His three institutions.
God and His institutions
It is because of God’s love and mercy that he does anything at all to curb evil with a civilization that rejects Him and pursues evil.
The revelation of God
Romans 1:18-24 introduces this concept of the revelation of God when it states “The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness since what may be known about God is plain to them because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse. For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles. Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts…”
God is clearly revealed through His creation but man has disregarded God and now commonly believes in evolution. Through evolution, we no longer recognize or need God.
So God “gives them over.” This term “giving them over” to pursue their sinful, evil desires means God is lessening His restraint of evil.
Historically, this was the first big battleground. The elimination of God. Evil men do everything they can to get rid of God and they are succeeding. The result is that evil is released and goes from bad to worse, just as God said it would.
In 1 Corinthians 6:9-11, the Bible teaches that “…wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God…neither the sexually immoral nor idolators…will inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were…”.
Galatians 5:19-24 says “The acts of the flesh are obvious; sexual immorality, impurity, and debauchery…I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control…Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh.”
Ephesians 2:1-5 further emphasizes this point “…you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air (Satan)…but because of His great love for us, God…made us alive with Christ..it is by grace you have been saved.”
So believers are sinners too, but they are sinners that have been forgiven. And forgiveness is expressed in the good fruits of their lives as opposed to the evils of their former lives and in the promise of the inheritance of heaven.
It didn’t take long for the church to be attacked, from both the outside and inside.
We’re not talking about cathedrals and religious institutions. The church is the “called out” people of God – the ecclesia. It is in fact a remnant as Christ in Matthew 7:14 states “…small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”
Coming from a society where “majorities rule,” the church is too easily pushed aside. Although it has survived since the creation of man, it is easy to see that its voice is weak. Of course, through God, all things are possible (Mark 10:27).
As believers, we bear a heavy responsibility, and in too many cases we are, unfortunately, too weak. Shame on us!
The next line of defense is the family.
Certainly, no one can deny that God created Adam and Eve as a family. One of the ten commandments commands us to honor our father and mother and Proverbs 23:13 advises us to “…not withhold discipline from a child…”.
Ephesians 5:21 commands us to “submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.” Finally, chapter 6 command that “children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right…”.
So, what are the signs of the end times? 2 Timothy 3:2 shows that “People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God—”
How did this come about?
You can look at a number of influences, all resulting in the destruction of the family. The LGBT movement certainly disrupts the biblical design of the family. As does feminism. Gender identity. Even making corporal punishment illegal is against the bible and has contributed to the destruction of the family.
The family was one of God’s defenses against evil. In 1950, 93% of families were married couples. Currently, we continue to trend down and are in the 60% area. In some cultures, the numbers are even lower.
Romans 13 lays out God’s third line of defense against evil “Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established…consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted…they are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoers.”
God’s last line of defense against evil is the government.
This too is being dismantled. We start with opposition to capital punishment – something only the government is commanded to do. We are up to “dismantling the police departments.” Again, Romans states “rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong…if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason.”
That sword is being taken away. Police are ordered to “stand down.” Those who are arrested are freed without bail under new laws and other laws have redefined the seriousness of infractions – from felonies to misdemeanors to nothing. Newly elected District Attorneys are even deciding simply not to prosecute.
Now we just disband and defund the police.
Why should evil men be afraid, the sword has disappeared.
Is the end near?
We can trust that evil goes from bad to worse and that we’re witnessing a worldwide transition to massive evil.
How long will God be patient? Only He knows the timing.
He is “giving them over.”
We know that believers will be caught up with God as stated in 1 Thessalonians 4:17 “After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.“
There will still be an opportunity for salvation but there will be great tribulation on earth such as has never been seen before.
Is the end near?
We have rid ourselves of God and have all but destroyed the three institutions that He established to control evil – the church, the family, and government.
What’s left? – you are my friend, you are.
Woe to those who call evil good
and good evil,
who put darkness for light
and light for darkness,
who put bitter for sweet
and sweet for bitter.
Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes
and clever in their own sight.
Woe to those who are heroes at drinking wine
and champions at mixing drinks,
who acquit the guilty for a bribe,
but deny justice to the innocent.
